The Lebanon-flora data base is a free, online collaborative database intended to document native Lebanese plant species in a user friendly, image-rich and searchable web re source. It is compiled from contributions by experts and non-experts dealing with Lebanese flora. The initiative’s Executive Committee includes scientists from different Lebanese universities and institutions. The project is designed to bring together scientists, teachers, students, amateurs and policy makers who need access to an authoritative source of taxonomic, geographic, genetic, morphological and cultural information about Lebanese plant species.
The Lebanon-Flora database is used to:
• Provide an electronic backbone for indexing and compiling different kind of information
• Find the position of plant in a consistent and integrated taxonomic hierarchy
• Maps the distribution of plants and monitor their update
• Direct access to Lebanese protected areas plant lists
• Locate herbarium specimen available in the Lebanese herbaria
• Facilitate samples identification collected at different stages (flower, fruit…) using high quality photos, ecological and botanical description
